Ranchi: The adopted minor daughter of widowed pensioner, Nahid Parveen (50), was sent to a juvenile home on Wednesday on charges of murdering her mother at their Doranda residence with the help of her ‘boyfriend’ and his associates last Friday. The girl’s ‘boyfriend’, Arbaz Khan (20), and his friend Sameer Khan (20) were arrested from Bihar and remanded to judicial custody, police said.
Ranchi (city) SP Paras Rana said, “The victim’s brother-in-law, Md Halim, who stays in Uttar Pradesh, on Monday lodged an FIR with the Doranda police, alleging foul play in his sister’s death. He alleged in the FIR that the adopted daughter on Saturday told him over phone that her mother had fallen inside the washroom and sustained injuries, leading to her death. Nahid’s body was buried at Doranda on Sunday.”
“Based on Halim’s FIR, the minor daughter was detained for interrogation on Sunday. She allegedly confessed to the crime and based on her revelations, Nahid’s body was exhumed the next day as part of investigation,” he added.
“Probe revealed that the deceased was a widowed pensioner. After her husband’s death four years ago, an amount of around Rs 30 lakh of provident fund and gratuity was deposited into her bank account.
The daughter, who had access to the victim’s bank accounts, gifted presents worth around Rs 4 lakh to her boyfriend over the past year. This led to disagreements between the mother and the daughter. The deceased also opposed to the minor’s decision to marry Arbaz,” the SP said.
Hunt is under way for two other friends of Arbaz, who are also accused in the case, police added.
Nahid was suffocated to death with a pillow and then struck on the head and neck with a hard object to make the death appear an accident last Friday night. The 17-year-old accused girl had been adopted around 15 years ago.
